Are You Happy?

Are You Happy?

Are you happy?

A pretty simple question and yet when I was asked it today by a friend I found myself wondering what it even means.

We had been catching up and I had apologized for being busy with my business lately. She asked if perhaps I needed to slow down and if I was was happy or not. The question caught me a bit off guard at first, but then I immediately thought to myself “Yes, I am unbelievably happy!”. Busy, sure. Tired, most of the time. A lot on my mind, often. But happy? Everyday.

It made me realize that much of us have associated certain things with leading to unhappiness.

Why I've Dreaded a 9 to 5 Job Since Middle School

Why I've Dreaded a 9 to 5 Job Since Middle School

Do you remember taking those interest aptitude tests in middle school that told you what should be when you grow up? Well, I remember taking those tests and I remember clearly thinking to myself that I never wanted to get to the day when I would have to work a ‘real’ job. The only problem is I thought something was wrong with me. I thought I had to just make myself accept that I had to do what everyone else had to do. From that day forward I told myself I would just have to make it work.

If you have a voice inside your head telling you something isn’t right you should listen to it. I am not saying go quit your job tomorrow, but explore it, listen to it, and see what it means.

As more college graduates are forced to take jobs that they would consider less than ideal, overall job satisfaction decreases. In my personal life alone, I would say at least 75% of the people I know are unhappy with their jobs. They are mistreated by their bosses, forced to work crazy hours, piled onto with unrealistic demands, forced to work with coworkers who refuse to drop the drama, and more.

Whatever the reason, I get it and I am here to try and offer you some support.

I Have A Dream That Everyone Be Able To Dream

I Have A Dream That Everyone Be Able To Dream

I will be the first to admit that as this day comes and goes each year, I often forget to reflect on it’s true significance. Most of the time, it is just another 3-day weekend off from work and an opportunity to sleep in. Now, I am not proud to admit this, but I am happy to say that this year is different.
This year I woke up pondering MLK Jr’s pivotal I Have A Dream Speech. I thought to myself what would be my dream for the world. What would be my message that I would want to spread to the people that needed to hear it. Finally, I realized that my dream is simple. My dream is that everyone be able to have a dream.

The True Meaning of New Year's Eve

The True Meaning of New Year's Eve

Let me take you back in time for a second to New Year’s Eve 2012. I was sitting in the living room of the apartment I shared with my sister and brother-in-law in Salem, Massachusetts. We were surrounded by yummy treats and ‘special’ beverages that we had spent quite a bit of money on. We had the TV turned to the Times Square Celebration and were enjoying sharing this time together.
